Rest for Dustin Johnson, desperation for Rickie Fowler

The reigning Masters champion, Dustin Johnson withdrew from the Valero Texas Open and will make his final preparations for Augusta National on home turf. It's doubtful that he'll be joining Kevin Na for any of those practice rounds after the two shared a tense exchange at the PGA Tour's WGC Match Play.

Rickie Fowler will be doing anything but resting this week as the clock is about to strike midnight on his hopes of earning an 11th consecutive invitation to Augusta. Only a win will do as he looks to extend his run of consecutive starts in majors to 42.

As the men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments wind down, golf's major-championship season is just beginning. The LPGA plays its first major this week, and the Augusta National Women's Amateur renews after having fallen victim to COVID last year.
