Happy new year: It's time for the Tournament of Champions (plus invited guests)
New year, new gear for world No. 2 Jon Rahm. He makes his competitive debut with Callaway clubs this week after signing a multiyear agreement. With the signing, Callaway now has a pair of players ranked inside the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking. Xander Schauffele has been on staff for two of his four career victories.
Tony Finau hasn't won on the PGA Tour since 2016, yet he's in the field this week at the annual champions-only Kapalua kickoff. So how is that? A one-year exception allowed Finau and 16 other non-winners into the field.
Time is running out for the circuit's slowest players as the PGA Tour adds a new stat to keep an eye on this season: seconds per shot. The new measure is intended to identify slow players, rather than measuring each group as a whole. Some are calling it the Bryson rule and, well, we don't disagree.
A new year is upon us, and we've got one bold prediction to offer. Someone will complete the career Grand Slam this year, and it's not going to be Rory McIlroy ... or Jordan Spieth ... or Phil Mickelson.
