Ballyhack Golf Club | Hole No. 15
Location: Roanoke, Va.
Course Architect: Lester George
Yardage | Rating | Slope: 7,294 | 76.1 | 155 | Scorecard
About The Signature: In 2003, as a favor to a friend, course architect Lester George surveyed and loved a large parcel of land just southeast of Roanoke, Va. The land, though, was not for sale — at least not for two years, when George coincidentally met the land owner while viewing the man's antique-car collection in Richmond, Va. ... George routed Ballyhack Golf Club naturally around the 190-acre site, taking advantage of the rolling topography. Some holes feature 50-70 feet of elevation change. ... The course offers views of the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains and has a Scottish Highlands feel when the winds begin whipping about. … The par-5 15th hole is a compelling dogleg-right hole in that the prevailing headwind can dictate club selection off the tee and on the second shot. The hole drops 100 feet in elevation off the tee, while the green is spacious because it shares with the 13th hole.
