2020 Zozo Championship: Latest betting odds, favorites and sleeper picks for Sherwood Country Club

Jon Rahm and Tiger Woods at 2020 Farmers Insurance Open
Jon Rahm (left) rates as the favorite to win this week's Zozo Championship, but Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., is a place where Tiger Woods has enjoyed a few celebratory moments.

Jon Rahm rates as the favorite this week at one of Tiger Woods' favorite stomping grounds in Southern California, but Tyrrell Hatton brings a hot hand and looks like a good bet to win at 20-1

Another week, another excruciatingly close call in finding the winner’s circle. Going into the CJ Cup, there was a consensus among many of the golf betting touts, including this space, that Xander Schauffele was the man to beat in Las Vegas. However, Jason Kokrak beat runner-up Schauffele by two strokes to pick up his first PGA Tour victory. Not all was lost though with our sleeper, Bubba Watson, who joined Schauffele in the top 10. Among our picks, only Abraham Ancer failed to impress after his fourth-place performance just a week earlier.

The PGA Tour remains on the West Coast for this week’s Zozo Championship, which Tiger Woods won for his record-tying 82nd PGA Tour title last year. However, that result was in Japan. Though Woods has enjoyed many years of success at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, where he won five World Challenge exhibition titles, he is making his first return to competition since missing the cut at the U.S. Open. Woods has struggled with the putter for much of 2020.

According to William Hill, the favorite this week will be world No. 2 Jon Rahm, at 10-1. Next, Schauffele was listed at 11-1, followed by Nos. 3 and 4 in the world ranking, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy, respectively. Both were 12-1 selections. Red-hot Tyrrell Hatton and steady Webb Simpson were 20-1 picks.

For our favorite, we’re going to ride the hot hand of Hatton. After winning the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship two weeks ago in his native England, Hatton tied for third in the CJ Cup. Look for Hatton to keep rolling.

For a midrange pick, we like Harris English at 30-1. It might be easy to overlook English in another loaded field, but he has had a good run of form, and that should continue this week. After his fourth-place finish at the U.S. Open, he missed the cut at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open two weeks ago but returned to the top 10 last week at the CJ Cup. He should be just fine at Sherwood.

For a sleeper, we’re going with Justin Rose, a 10-time PGA Tour winner, including a major championship, at 80-1. He certainly has not been his high-level playing self recently, but at that price, he is too good to pass up. Rose is bound to find his form soon, and this week presents the perfect example to do just that in a no-cut event. Take a flier on Rose for a top-10 or top-20 finish.
