Addressed: The Stanford football team, by alumnus Tiger Woods in a pregame pep talk before the Cardinal's matchup Saturday against Central Florida in Orlando, Fla. Stanford came out and quickly fell behind, trailing 38-7 at the half to 17th-ranked UCF before eventually losing, 45-27. Woods, who attended Stanford for two years before turning professional in 1996, was shown during the game wearing Stanford gear on the sidelines with his girlfriend, Erica Herman, a UCF graduate. Woods, who announced last month that he had undergone a fifth surgery on his left knee, is not expected to compete again until the PGA Tour’s inaugural Zozo Championship on Oct. 24-27 near Tokyo. He hosts his annual Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas on Dec. 4-7 before he will captain the U.S. team in the Presidents Cup on Dec. 12-15 in Australia.
Announced: By the Champions Tour’s Ally Challenge, a five-year extension with title sponsor Ally Financial and tournament host Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich., through 2025. The tour also set the dates for next year’s event: July 30-Aug. 2.
