Nominated: Americans Brooks Koepka, Matt Kuchar and Xander Schauffele and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy for the PGA Tour’s Jack Nicklaus Award as the 2019 Player of the Year. Koepka and McIlroy won three times this season, and Kuchar and Schauffele were two-time champions. Among the four, only Koepka won a major championship, the PGA. McIlroy won the recent Tour Championship and the season’s FedEx Cup. The Tour also nominated five players for its Arnold Palmer Award as the 2019 Rookie of the Year: Americans Cameron Champ, Adam Long, Collin Morikawa and Matthew Wolff and South Korea’s Sungjae Im. All except Im won in their first season on Tour. The awards will be determined by a member vote, which closes Sept. 6.
Named: As coaches of the U.S. Palmer Cup college teams, Oklahoma State’s Alan Bratton for the men and Duke’s Dan Brooks for the women. The Internationals will be led by Ireland’s Alan Murray of Washington for the men and the Philippines’ Ria Quiazon Scott of Virginia for the women. The annual match will be played July 3-5 at Lahinch (Ireland) Golf Club.
