Committed: Tiger Woods, to the first two FedEx Cup playoff events: next week’s Northern Trust and the following week’s BMW Championship. Woods, 43, has played only 10 PGA Tour events this season, with only four starts since he won the Masters in April. Woods missed the cut in the British Open two weeks ago. He ranks 27th in the FedEx Cup standings. The top 125 will start the playoffs at the Northern Trust at Liberty National in Jersey City, N.J., and the top 70 will advance to the BMW at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club. From there, the top 30 will qualify for the Tour Championship on Aug. 22-25 at East Lake in Atlanta. Woods won last year’s Tour Championship, ending a five-year winless streak.
Awarded: Royal Porthcawl in Wales, as host site for the 2021 Women’s British Open, the R&A announced. It will be the first women’s major championship to be played in Wales. In 2014, Royal Porthcawl played host to its first major championship, the Senior British Open, and the tournament returned to the club in 2017. Royal Porthcawl, on the southern Welsh coast, has been the site of a number of top amateur events, notably seven British Amateurs, the 1995 Walker Cup and the 1964 Curtis Cup. Wales is the only nation in the United Kingdom that has not hosted a British Open. The 2019 Women’s British Open begins today at Woburn (England) Golf Club’s Marquess Course. The 2020 WBO will be played at Royal Troon in Scotland.

Old Waverly, home course for Mississippi State’s men’s and women’s teams, played host to the 1999 U.S. Women’s Open, which was won by Juli Inkster, as well as numerous college and amateur events.
