Only No. 8 Paul Casey will tee it up at the regular-season finale this week at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. (tee times), an event that also will decide the 10 bonus winners. Casey could move as high as No. 4 with a victory. The rest of the top 10, including No. 1 Brooks Koepka, who stands to win a $2 million bonus from the $10 million pool and also ranks No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, are taking the week off before next week’s first of three playoff events.
Number of top-25 finishes in his past six starts for Tyson Alexander on the Korn Ferry Tour, after he had posted zero top 25s in his 11 previous starts on the developmental tour. Alexander, 31, won once in 30 starts on the Latinoamerica Tour. Alexander will be in the field for this week’s Ellie Mae Classic, which begins Thursday at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, Calif. (tee times).
Odds for Webb Simpson to win the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship this week at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. (tee times), according to Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. Simpson, 33, a Raleigh native who attended Wake Forest in nearby Winston-Salem and lives in Charlotte, won the 2011 Wyndham, his first of five Tour titles. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama was the second choice to win Wyndham, at 14-1. Jordan Spieth and rookie Collin Morikawa, who won the Barracuda Championship last week, were co-No. 3 choices at 18-1.
