Number of birdies made by American Scott Piercy, who shot a bogey-free 62 for the first-round lead Thursday in the PGA Tour’s inaugural 3M Open in Blaine, Minn. Piercy, 40, a four-time winner who is in his 11th season on Tour, birdied six of his final eight holes at TPC Twin Cities. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and Canada’s Adam Hadwin shared second place at 64 (scores).


Number of strokes under par that China’s Yu Liu stood after the first round of the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Oneida, Wis. Liu, 23, a second-year LPGA player out of Duke, surged to a 5-under start through five holes, sparked by an eagle at the par-5 13th hole after beginning on the back nine at Thornberry Creek. American Yealimi Noh and South Korea’s Jeong Eun Lee shared second at 9-under 63. Of the 140-player field, 103 broke par (scores).


Score shot by Padraig Harrington, his lowest round ever in his home open, as the Irishman led after the first round of the European Tour’s Irish Open. Harrington, 47, made eight birdies and one bogey at Lahinch (Ireland) Golf Club. Harrington won the 2007 Irish Open before he later that summer claimed the first of two consecutive British Open titles. South Africa’s Zander Lombard birdied four of his final five holes to grab second place at 6-under 64 (scores).


Score shot by American Matthew Campbell, who led after one round of the LECOM Health Challenge, the PGA Tour’s developmental event in Findley Lake, N.Y. Campbell, 30, in only his fourth career start on the secondary tour – all in the past four weeks – birdied his last three holes at Peek’n Peak Resort’s Upper Course for an 8-under score and one-stroke lead before darkness suspended play. Australia’s Tim Wilkinson held second place at 65 (scores).
