Accommodated: Brigham Young’s religious policy of not competing on Sundays, so the men’s golf team will begin what would have been its third round of the NCAA Division I Championship today, which is a practice day for the rest of the field. BYU’s five players will compete as singles beginning at 4 p.m. CDT on the No. 1 tee at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. All 30 teams and six individuals will begin the first round Friday, continue Saturday and then all except BYU will play Sunday. BYU will post its score from today, with the Sunday hole locations, as its third-round number on Sunday. The top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will play the final 18 holes Monday to determine the individual medalist and the eight teams that qualify for match play, which begins Tuesday.


Committed: Justin Thomas, to play in next week’s Memorial Tournament. Thomas, 26, missed last week’s PGA Championship, citing an injury to his right wrist. Thomas, who is No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking, has not played since mid-April, when he tied for 12th in the Masters.
