Number of birdies that Rory McIlroy made on the back nine at Quail Hollow Club to rally to a 5-under 66 and a share of the first-round lead Wednesday at the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, N.C. McIlroy, 29, a Northern Irishman and two-time winner at Quail Hollow, was tied with American Joel Dahmen, who held the 18-hole co-lead for the third time in his past six starts. Dahmen, 31, has made 14 cuts in 18 starts this season but posted only one top-10 result (scores).


Number of consecutive seasons on the Champions Tour during which Bernhard Langer has won at least once. Langer, 61, enters this week’s Insperity Invitational, which begins today at The Woodlands (Texas) Country Club, as the defending champion and a four-time winner of the event (tee times). Langer’s 39 career victories on the 50-and-older tour rank second to Hale Irwin’s 45.


Score for American Robby Shelton, who held the first-round lead at the Tour’s Nashville Golf Open when play was suspended because of darkness. Shelton birdied his final four holes, Nos. 6-9 after he started on the back nine, at Nashville Golf & Athletic Club in Brentwood, Tenn., to get to 8 under and open a one-stroke lead over American Brandon Matthews. Shelton, 23, a second-year Tour member in search of his first victory, has finished second and fourth in his past two starts (scores).


Score for Jorge Campillo, David Lipsky and Tapio Pulkkanen, who shared the first-round lead at the European Tour’s Volvo China Open at Genzon Golf Club in Shenzhen, China. Campillo, a 32-year-old Spaniard, is coming off his first tour victory, at last week’s Trophee Hassan II. Lipsky, 32, an American, is a two-time winner on the tour. Pulkkanen, 28, of Finland, the 2017 Challenge Tour money leader, is seeking his first title in his second season on tour (scores).


Score for South Koreans Eun-Hee Ji and So Yeon Ryu and the Netherlands’ Anne van Dam, who were tied with the lead at 5 under at the LPGA Mediheal Championship in Daly City, Calif. Van Dam, who leads the tour in driving distance at 289 yards, stood 2 over through four holes at Lake Merced Golf Club but made an eagle and five birdies to surge into a share of the lead (scores).
