Position in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings for Tiger Woods, who improved from fifth place after his victory Sunday in the Masters Tournament. The 2020 Ryder Cup will be played Sept. 25-27 at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis. Woods also rose to ninth, from 17th, in the U.S. Presidents Cup standings. The biennial matches will be played Dec. 12-15 in Melbourne, Australia, with Woods as captain of the U.S. team.

James Adducci, 39, a day trader from La Crosse, Wis., told media outlets that it was his first sports bet. He sold some Amazon stock, flew to Las Vegas on April 9 and, with a backpack full of cash that he had withdrawn from a local bank, placed the bet at the SLS Vegas Hotel & Casino, which is operated by sportsbook William Hill. Adducci got a check with $1.275 million: his original wager plus the $1,190,000 winnings. Adducci said that he plans to invest his winnings.
