Announced: By President Donald Trump, that he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Tiger Woods, who won the Masters Tournament on Sunday. Trump, an avid golfer and prominent course owner, said via Twitter that he spoke with Woods and congratulated him for his victory and “incredible comeback.” Trump did not disclose when the medal, regarded as one of the nation’s highest civilian honors, would be awarded. Woods, 43, returned from a fourth back surgery and various personal issues to win his first major championship in 11 years. He ranks second all-time in major titles (15) and PGA Tour victories (81). Among the two dozen-plus sports figures who have received the Presidential Medal of Freedom are golfers Jack Nicklaus, the late Arnold Palmer and the late Charles Sifford. Trump played golf with Woods as recently as February, when they were joined by Nicklaus at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla.
