Number of strokes under par that American Ally McDonald stood Thursday to lead the first round of the ANA Inspiration, the LPGA's first major championship of the year. McDonald, 26, a fourth-year pro out of Mississippi State who is seeking her first LPGA victory, has made only two cuts in five starts this season. She birdied the par-5 18th at Mission Hills Country Club’s Dinah Shore Tournament Course in Rancho Mirage, Calif., to shoot 68 and open a one-stroke lead over Lexi Thompson and three others (scores).


Number of strokes under par that the Netherlands’ Daan Huizing stood to lead the Jordan Mixed Open in Aqaba, Jordan. The inaugural event brings together players from Europe’s Challenge, Staysure and Ladies European tours at Ayla Golf Club to compete for the same prize fund. Huizing, who competes on the developmental Challenge Tour, shot 64 and led fellow Challenge Tour player Jack Senior of England and the LET’s Meghan MacLaren of England by one stroke. Distances at Ayla Golf Club varied for the competitors: 7,100 yards for the Challenge Tour players, 6,601 for the Staysure members and 6,139 for the LET players (scores).


Distance, in feet, of the cumulative length of putts that South Korea’s Si Woo Kim made in posting a 6-under 66 for the first-round lead at the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open. Kim, 23, a two-time winner on Tour, made seven birdies in a nine-hole stretch at TPC San Antonio’s AT&T Oaks course. San Antonio resident Abraham Ancer, a Mexican who played college golf at Oklahoma, shared second place with Americans J.T. Poston and Brian Stuard and Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas at 67 (scores).


36-hole total for Jennifer Kupcho, whose 5-under score leads by one stroke at the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Kupcho, 21, a Wake Forest senior from Westminster, Colo., shot 68-71 for the first two days at Champions Retreat Golf Club. Eleven players completed a sudden-death playoff for 10 spots to reach the 30-player cut for the final round, to be played Saturday at Augusta National Golf Club. All 72 competitors were invited to play a practice round today at Augusta National (scores).
