Position in the U.S. rankings for the 2020 Ryder Cup for Jim Furyk, 48, who will be 50 when the Americans play the Europeans at Whistling Straits. Furyk vaulted up the rankings with his runner-up finish Sunday in the Players Championship. Furyk, whose 17 PGA Tour victories include the 2003 U.S. Open, has played in nine Ryder Cups and captained the Americans’ losing effort last year in France.


Number of top-30 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, led by No. 1 Dustin Johnson, who are entered in the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship, which begins Thursday at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Fla. Johnson, who is playing Valspar for the first time since 2010, won last month at the WGC Mexico Championship for his 20th career victory (tee times).
