Number of years ago that Scotland’s Paul Lawrie won his first of two Qatar Masters titles on the European Tour. Five months after Lawrie stormed to a seven-stroke victory at Doha Golf Club, he won the British Open in a playoff after Jean van de Velde’s memorable collapse on the 18th hole at Carnoustie. Lawrie, 50, an eight-time winner on the European Tour, returns to Doha for the 22nd edition of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, which begins today.
