Committed: To start his season at the Farmers Insurance Open next week, Tiger Woods, who has won eight times at the San Diego municipal complex, including the 2008 U.S. Open, his most recent major championship. It will be the first PGA Tour event for Woods, 43, since September, when he won the Tour Championship for his 80th career victory and first in five years. Woods returned to competition last year at Torrey Pines after he underwent a fourth back surgery in 2017.
Announced: By the Astros Golf Foundation, that the 2019 Houston Open will be played Oct. 10-13 at the Golf Club of Houston. The five-year agreement calls for the Houston Open, which was saved by Astros owner Jim Crane when sponsorship efforts failed, to move to Memorial Park Golf Course in 2020. The municipal course played host to the PGA Tour in 1951-63. Memorial Park recently closed for a 10-month, $13.5 million renovation to be headed by architect Tom Doak (“In the news,” Jan. 14).
