Anticipation for ‘a better year’
John Hawkins’ piece was refreshingly upbeat and a sure sign that 2019 is going to be a better year, even for those of us who are not spoiled, rich or over-indulged (“Island vibe offers Tour a warm opening,” Jan. 3).
I’m ready for the golf to begin, with no fear that some anal bozo from Moline will call in some obtuse infraction and ruin some rich and spoiled golfer’s day.

Not so fast
Cameron Champ will have to play his way into the Masters (“From the Morning Read inbox,” Jan. 3). If the tournament were played today, he does not qualify.
(Editor’s note: Cook is correct. Although Champ won the Sanderson Farms Championship on Oct. 28 and has risen to No. 92 in the Official World Golf Ranking, he has not qualified for the Masters.)
LPGA’s intersection of golf and pizzazz
Regarding Kenneth Taylor's comments on the "bad” girls on the LPGA (“From the Morning Read inbox,” Jan. 3):
I guarantee that the LPGA board is walking a fine line between golf and pizzazz. I love to watch fine golf, but I'm all in for a few more “swings.”
