Number of Southern Methodist alumni who will captain the two opposing teams in the third annual Go Vacaciones Cozumel Cup on Dec. 13-15 in Cozumel, Mexico, the PGA Tour announced. The competition pits 10-man teams of the top money winners from the developmental Latinoamerica and Canadian tours in a three-day competition. Harry Higgs, who won the Order of Merit on the Latinoamerica Tour, will serve as captain against former college teammate Sam Fidone, the top money winner on the Mackenzie Tour in Canada. The format will be four-ball, foursomes and singles matches in successive days. The series is tied, 1-1.


Score for Louis Oosthuizen, who led after the first round of the South African Open. Oosthuizen, 36, a South African playing in his national open for the first time since 2010, posted a bogey-free 9-under score on the Bushwillow Course at Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg. Zambia’s Madalitso Muthiya shot 63 on Bushwillow, and American Kurt Kitayama posted 63 on the Firethorn Course, which also is being used for the first two rounds, to share second place. Kitayama, a recent European Tour Q-School graduate, won the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open last week in only his third career start on the tour. After today’s 36-hole cut, the weekend qualifiers will move to the Firethorn Course for the final two rounds (scores).
