Number of fairways missed off the tee and greens missed in regulation by Charles Howell III on Thursday as he took the first-round lead in the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic. For the first time since he joined the PGA Tour in 2001, Howell hit 14 of 14 fairways and all 18 greens as he posted an 8-under 64 at Sea Island Resort’s Plantation Course on St. Simons Island, Ga. He leads fellow Americans J.J. Spaun and Austin Cook by two strokes (scores).


Number of strokes under par that co-leaders Adrian Otaegui and Jordan Smith stood after the first round of the European Tour’s DP World Tour Championship. Otaegui, of Spain, and Smith, of England, shot 66s at Jumeirah Estates’ Earth Course in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Defending champion Jon Rahm of Spain and England’s Danny Willett shared third place at 67. Francesco Molinari, who would guarantee the season-long Race to Dubai title with a finish of T-5 or better, was tied for fifth at 68 (scores).


First-round score for American Amy Olson, who led the LPGA’s CME Group Championship. Olson made nine birdies, including all four par 5s, at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla., to open a one-stroke lead in the LPGA’s season finale. American Brittany Lincicome, who made her only bogey of the day on the par-4 18th hole, shared second place with Japan’s Nasa Hataoka at 64 (scores).
