Number of players who have a mathematical shot at winning the Champions Tour’s Charles Schwab Cup. The season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship begins today at Phoenix (Ariz.) Country Club (tee times). Bernhard Langer or Scott Parel would win the season cup with a victory this week. Miguel Angel Jimenez, Jerry Kelly, Scott McCarron and David Toms also can claim the season crown and $1 million bonus, with some help, according to tour calculations (season standings).


Number of years that the PGA Tour will have played the Mayakoba Golf Classic when the tournament begins today at El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The tournament was the Tour’s first co-sanctioned event to be played outside of the U.S. and Canada when it debuted in 2007 on the Yucatan Peninsula (tee times).


Number of qualifying spots for the British Open that will be offered via the Open Qualifying Series schedule, which was released by the R&A and European Tour. The 148th British Open will be played July 18-21 at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland (schedule).


Number of tournaments that Gary Player won on the Sunshine Tour, his home tour in South Africa, to rank as the winningest golfer in tour history. Player, 83, will be the host of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, which begins today at Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, South Africa. Player, a World Golf Hall of Fame member, won 24 times on the PGA Tour, including nine major championships. The tournament is co-sanctioned by the European and Sunshine tours (tee times).


Score for Thailand’s Thidapa Suwannapura, who led after one round of the Blue Bay LPGA at Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Club on Hainan Island, China. Compatriot Ariya Jutanugarn, a three-time winner this season who is the world’s top-ranked female golfer, and Canada’s Alena Sharp shared second at 69. Suwannapura, 25, is seeking her second victory this season, after she won the Marathon Classic in July (scores).
