Number of victorious European Ryder Cup teammates paired together in Thursday’s first round of the Turkish Airlines Open. Englishmen Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood will play alongside Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen at Regnum Carya Golf and Spa Resort in Belek, Turkey (tee times). All stand among the top 10 of the tour’s season-long Race to Dubai rankings – Fleetwood second, Olesen seventh and Rose 10th – entering the final three events of the season.


Number of players among the top 15 in the Official World Golf Ranking who are entered in the PGA Tour’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, which begins Thursday at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. No. 6-ranked Bryson DeChambeau begins his 2018-19 season after having won three times last season. Also, No. 9 Rickie Fowler, No. 13 Jordan Spieth and No. 15 Tony Finau are entered (tee times).


Percentage decline in rounds played in the U.S. in September compared with the same month a year ago, according to Golf Datatech’s National Rounds Played Report. For the first nine months of the year, rounds played declined 3.3 percent compared with the same period last year. In the eastern two-thirds of the country, increased precipitation led to fewer rounds played, researchers found. West of the Rockies, rounds played increased, aided by lower rainfall, according to the report. The reduced play in September was nearly identical across public and private courses: down 7.2 percent for public-access courses and 7.1 percent for private courses.
