In his first start since the Ryder Cup, Reed shot a bogey-free 8-under 64. Americans Xander Schauffele and Tony Finau shared second with 66s (scores).


Number of birdies that England’s Jodi Ewart Shadoff made in a bogey-free 65 to grab the first-round lead in the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship at Ta Shee Golf and Country Club in Taoyuan, Taiwan. Shadoff is seeking her first victory since joining the LPGA in 2011. American Nelly Korda and South Korean Haeji Kang shared second at 5-under 67 (scores).


Average distance, in yards, of measurable drives for American Cameron Champ at the PGA Tour’s Sanderson Farms Championship. Champ shot 7-under 65 at Country Club of Jackson (Miss.) for the lead in the first round, which was suspended because of darkness. Twelve players were unable to complete their rounds. Champ, 23, a Tour rookie, led the Tour in driving distance last season, at 343.1 yards. By comparison, Rory McIlroy led the PGA Tour at 319.8 (scores).
