Confirmed: By Steven Bowditch, that he will be facing back surgery next month. Bowditch, 35, a two-time PGA Tour winner from Australia, disclosed in a Twitter post that he has been diagnosed with pars defect and spondylolysis – in common language, stress fractures in his spine. He will undergo surgical fusion of the L5 and S1 vertebrae – similar to what Tiger Woods underwent last year – and said he hopes to return to competition late next year. Bowditch played sparingly on the PGA Tour last season. He hasn’t competed since early August, when he missed his eighth consecutive cut on Tour and has failed to advance to the weekend in 28 of his past 29 starts. He has plummeted out of the top 2,000 in the Official World Golf Ranking, only three years after having climbed to as high as No. 54.
