Score on the 18th hole, an eagle, as American Ken Tanigawa posted a one-stroke victory Sunday in the Champions Tour’s PURE Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links. Tanigawa also eagled the final hole a day earlier at Poppy Hills, which shared hosting duties with Pebble Beach for the first two rounds, and held a two-stroke lead after 36 holes. Tanigawa struggled in the final round, squandering two early birdies and standing 2 over after 17 holes before his theatrics at the iconic seaside par 5. It was the first victory for Tanigawa, 50, a rookie on the senior tour. Americans Kirk Triplett (70) and Marco Dawson (71) placed second at 9-under 206 (scores).

Record during the 42nd Ryder Cup for Italian Francesco Molinari, who led the Europeans to a 17½-10½ victory in the biennial matches at Le Golf National near Paris (scores). Molinari, 35, who came into this year’s matches with an 0-4-2 record in two previous Ryder Cups, delivered the clinching point with a 4-and-2 victory against Phil Mickelson. Molinari is only the fourth player in the history of the Ryder Cup to go 5-0-0, joining Americans Larry Nelson (1979), Arnold Palmer (1967) and Gardner Dickinson (1967).
