Honored: Celia Barquin Arozamena, the slain former Iowa State golfer, before the Cyclones’ football game Saturday against Akron in Ames, Iowa. Barquin, 22, the reigning Big 12 Conference women’s champion, was killed Sept. 17 while playing a solo round of golf at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames. Thousands of fans wore yellow, her favorite color, the ISU band formed the letters CBA on the field during the national anthem and players of both teams wore decals with her initials on their helmets. Collin Daniel Richards, 22, who has no known address, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in Barquin’s death. Barquin, of Spain, was completing her studies in civil engineering after having exhausted her athletic eligibility in the spring. Iowa State defeated Akron, 26-13.
