Finalized: The eight automatic qualifiers for Europe’s Ryder Cup team as Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen solidified the final spot after he tied for 20th in his homeland Made in Denmark tournament on the European Tour (scores). The qualifiers, in order of their standing on the European team points lists, for the Sept. 28-30 biennial matches against the U.S. at Le Golf National in France: (European points list) Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood; (world points list) Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Alex Noren and Olesen. Captain Thomas Bjorn is expected to add four wild-card selections on Wednesday.


Accepted: By Mark Mulder, a sponsor exemption to play the PGA Tour’s Safeway Open on Oct. 4-7 at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, Calif. Mulder, 41, a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played in 2000-08, including five seasons with the Oakland Athletics, won three consecutive American Century Championship celebrity golf titles, in 2015-17. Mulder’s invitation follows the recent appearances of basketball’s Stephen Curry and football’s Tony Romo on major professional tours. Romo missed the cut in the PGA Tour’s Corales Punta Cana Resort and Club Championship in March, and Curry missed the cut in each of the past two years in another Bay Area event, the Web.com Tour’s Ellie Mae Classic.
