Thomson, 22, an Englishman and childhood leukemia survivor, came through all three stages of qualifying school last year. His best finish in 15 starts this season was a tie for 29th two weeks ago in the Nordea Masters. Number of birdies, including her final four holes, for American Marina Alex as she shot a bogey-free 62 for the first-round lead in the LPGA’s Cambria Portland Classic. First-round scores for co-leaders Linnea Strom of Sweden and Leona Maguire of Ireland in the Symetra Tour’s Sioux Falls GreatLife Challenge. Both played bogey-free, 5-under rounds at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D. (scores).
