Withdrew: From this week’s Northern Trust, Henrik Stenson, citing an injured left elbow. Stenson is the fifth player to withdraw from the 125-man tournament, the first of four FedEx Cup playoff events, which does not have an alternate list (tee times). Bud Cauley (recovering from June auto accident) and Rickie Fowler (abdomen muscle) also cited injuries, and Rory McIlroy (rest) and Patrick Rodgers (attending a wedding) are out for other reasons.

Named: As winner of the PGA Tour’s 2018 Payne Stewart Award, Bernhard Langer. The award, named after the late World Golf Hall of Fame member, recognizes the character, sportsmanship and professionalism associated with Stewart. Langer, a native of Germany who will turn 61 on Aug. 27, is a two-time Masters champion who has won 42 times on the European Tour and 37 times on the Champions Tour.
