Percentage decline in rounds played in June in the U.S., compared with the same month last year, according to Golf Datatech’s National Golf Rounds Played Report. Play at public-access facilities in June was off 1.1 percent, and rounds declined 1.8 percent at private facilities. For the year, play has declined 3.3 percent from the first six months of 2017, marked by similar drops at public-access (3.2 percent) and private (3.7 percent) courses. Much of the Pacific Coast region is bucking the national trend, with rounds played for the first six months of 2018 up 7.8 percent. Among the areas leading the growth: Portland, Ore., (20 percent), San Francisco/Oakland (17.1 percent) and Seattle (14.2 percent).
Number of PGA Tour victories for Chris DiMarco, who will compete in the Web.com Tour’s KC Golf Classic as he prepares to play the Champions Tour after he turns 50 on Aug. 23 (tee times). Although DiMarco won three times in 2000-02, he most famously is remembered on Tour for the three major championships that got away in 2004-06. DiMarco lost to Vijay Singh in a playoff for the 2004 PGA, lost to Tiger Woods in a playoff for the 2005 Masters and finished second in the 2006 British Open, again behind Woods.
