Percentage increase in rounds played in May, compared with the same month in 2017, according to the National Golf Rounds Played Report released by Golf Datatech. New England led the increase, with rounds played in the region up 17.7 percent from May 2017. Warmer weather contributed to the increase, according to the report. However, the number of rounds played for 2018 continues to lag last year’s play. Rounds played during the first five months of the year were off 4.1 percent from a year ago.
Number of Americans entered in this week’s HNA Open de France at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, the site of this fall’s Ryder Cup. However, only Justin Thomas, the No. 2-ranked player in the world, stands a chance of making the American team that will play Europe on Sept. 28-30. The other Americans in France this week: Seungsu Han, Daniel Im, Chase Koepka, David Lipsky and Julian Suri (tee times).
