Withdrew: From next month’s British Open at Carnoustie (Scotland) Golf Links, Scotsman Paul Lawrie, who won the 1999 Open after Jean Van de Velde’s dramatic collapse on the final hole at Carnoustie. Lawrie, 49, citing ongoing back and foot injuries, said that he will not compete again this year. Lawrie prevailed in ’99 in a playoff with France’s Van de Velde, who had led by three strokes before making a triple bogey on the final hole, and American Justin Leonard.
