Number of players who were added to complete the field for this week’s U.S. Open, the U.S. Golf Association announced Monday. Two were exempted via the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking: No. 52 Emiliano Grillo and No. 57 Byeong Hun An. Four were added as first alternates from their respective sectional qualifiers: Ryan Evans, Rikuya Hoshino, Scott Piercy and Ted Potter Jr. The 118th U.S. Open begins Thursday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.(tee times).
Odds for Dustin Johnson to win this week’s U.S. Open, according to Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. Johnson was elevated into the favorite’s role after he cruised to a six-stroke victory Sunday in the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn. The victory also restored Johnson to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, a position that he had held for 64 consecutive weeks before being supplanted four weeks ago by Justin Thomas. Four golfers were listed at 14-1: Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Thomas. Jason Day was listed at 16-1, followed by Jordan Spieth at 18-1. Tiger Woods was a 20-1 choice.
