Keeping score

Number of matches that Oklahoma State won against Alabama in sweeping the NCAA Division I men’s match-play final Wednesday at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. Only one match made it past the 16th hole as the top-seeded Cowboys, who had won the 72-hole stroke-play qualifying to lead eight teams into match play, claimed the 11th NCAA men’s golf title in school history. Senior Kristoffer Ventura, junior Zach Bauchou, sophomore Viktor Hovland and freshmen Matthew Wolff and Austin Eckroat delivered match-play victories. Fifth-year coach Alan Bratton added the national title to the one that he helped OSU win in 1995 as a senior all-American. It was the second time in the past three years that the NCAA champion prevailed on its home course, after 2016 winner Oregon won at Eugene Country Club (scores).
