Some golf questions in need of answers

Questions from an unquiet golf mind:

Which would be the better story from the U.S. Open: Tiger Woods wins or Phil Mickelson wins?

Does anyone besides the media care about Patrick Reed’s back story?

How many of you (besides me) ran out and got an arm-lock putter after Webb Simpson won the Players Championship?

Why do you suppose Jordan Spieth has been running so hot and cold? Is his confidence that shaky?

Could it be that because Woods is 42, he has lost some of the mental toughness that made him so dominant? You’d never see him make a bogey with a sand wedge like he did Sunday on the 14th hole at the Players.

Now that sports gambling can be legal all over the country, would you bet on PGA Tour events? Would it make tournaments other than majors more interesting?

Don’t you think the USGA will be extra careful in the course setup at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills after the debacle in 2004? Shouldn’t we give a loud shout-out to the Shinnecock members for allowing the USGA to come back for another Open?

Anyone seen Retief Goosen?

For someone who has such a universally-lauded putting stroke, Rickie Fowler doesn’t make many putts, does he?

How about Justin Thomas vs. Jon Rahm in the Ryder Cup singles?

Why do you suppose Rory McIlroy has been running so hot and cold? Does he lose interest when things aren’t going well? Is that just his nature?

If the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass were the eighth hole, would we even be talking about it?

Should Augusta National cut back some tree limbs in that narrow chute that golfers face off the 18th tee? I’ll bet that Spieth would be in favor of it.

Pound for pound, who is the longest driver on the PGA Tour? McIlroy? Thomas? Who else?

What if Woods never wins another tournament? Would that matter?

Go on and admit it: You were pulling for Fowler at the Masters, weren’t you?

What happened to Natalie Gulbis? She was what Paige Spiranac aspires to be.

Have you heard anyone on Golf Channel say a negative word lately about anything PGA Tour-related? Could it be that’s why Brandel Chamblee is talking about taking his golf game to the Champions Tour?

Was that a huge sigh of relief we heard from the LPGA after Lydia Ko won the Mediheal Championship in San Francisco?

Should Augusta National lengthen the par-5 13th? If not, why did the club buy the land behind the 13th tee from Augusta Country Club?

Weren’t you secretly happy that Ian Poulter shot 5 over on the back nine on the final day of the RBC Heritage?

If you needed an LPGA player to make an 8-footer for your life, would you choose Cristie Kerr or Inbee Park?

Could it be that the PGA Tour has forbidden TV announcers from mentioning prize money or the money list? Instead, aren’t FedEx Cup points all that they talk about?

Do you think Si Woo Kim gave his putter away after the RBC Heritage? Or did he break it in half and throw it into the trash?

Is Brooke Henderson the LPGA’s best hope?

What in the world happened to Martin Kaymer? After winning two majors and the Players Championship, he has dropped off the face of the golf earth.

After Sergio Garcia hit his first ball into the water at the 15th at Augusta National, why didn’t he hit his next one 30 feet past the hole? In channeling his inner Tin Cup, what was he trying to prove?

Dan Hicks of NBC said that TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course has “the best three-hole finishing stretch in golf.” Really? Who told him to say that?

Was it Mickelson’s energy level at the Players? Or was it a loss of focus that he hacked his way to a 79 in the first round? He is 47, after all.

Doesn’t Woods look trimmer than he did a couple of years ago?
