Number of strokes under par that Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho scored in winning the NCAA Division I women’s golf title Monday. Kupcho, a junior from Westminster, Colo., closed with a 1-under 71 for a 280 total and two-stroke victory at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. Stanford’s Andrea Lee shot a final-round 65 to grab a share of second place with Arizona’s Bianca Pagdanganan (72) at 6-under 282. The top eight teams, led by co-leaders UCLA and Alabama at 9-over 1,161, advanced to match play, which begins today. The others: Southern California, Northwestern, Stanford, Duke, Kent State and Arizona (scores).
Position of Aaron Wise in the Official World Golf Ranking, an improvement of 33 spots, after his victory Sunday in the AT&T Byron Nelson. Wise, 21, a PGA Tour rookie, had tied for second two weeks earlier at the Wells Fargo Championship and moved into the top 100 for the first time. He ended last year ranked No. 223.
Number of consecutive major championships that Australia’s Adam Scott has played, a streak that is in jeopardy. Scott, who is No. 61 in the Official World Golf Ranking, missed qualifying for the upcoming U.S. Open by being in the top 60 entering this week. He would need to play a sectional qualifier June 4 or move into the OWGR’s top 60 by June 11 to qualify for the June 14-17 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.
