Number of strokes under par that American John Peterson shot for the first-round lead Thursday in the Wells Fargo Championship. Peterson holed out on consecutive holes for eagle on his 16th and 17th holes, Nos. 7 and 8, at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., for a 65 and a two-stroke lead. Peterson, 29, holed a 56 1/2-foot greenside bunker shot for eagle at the par-5 seventh hole before he jarred a 103-yard wedge for 2 on the par-4 eighth hole. Fellow Americans Peter Malnati, Keith Mitchell, Kyle Stanley and Johnson Wagner shared second place with England’s Tyrrell Hatton at 4-under 67 (scores).
