Number of Olympians paired in the 12:57 p.m. CDT Thursday group off the No. 1 tee at TPC Louisiana for the first round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in Avondale, La. England’s Justin Rose and Sweden’s Henrik Stenson will play with Americans Matt Kuchar and Bubba Watson. Rose won the gold medal in the 2016 Rio Games as golf returned to the Olympics after a 112-year absence. Stenson won the silver, and Kuchar took the bronze. The Zurich Classic will use four-balls (better ball) in the first and third rounds and foursomes (alternate shot) in the second and fourth rounds. After two rounds, a cut to the low 35 teams and ties at the 35th position will determine the weekend field (tee times).


Amount, in billions of dollars, of economic activity generated by golf, according to the U.S. Golf Economy Report that was presented Tuesday at the National Press Club in Washington. The study found a 22-percent increase in economic activity from the previous study, which was done in 2011. The golf industry supports $191.98 billion in activity, 1.89 million jobs and $58.7 billion in compensation, the study found. The news was disclosed on the eve of National Golf Day, when industry leaders will visit Capitol Hill to lobby Congress and other national leaders on the game’s economic impact.
