Scheduled: For Thursday, a news conference in Memphis, Tenn., to announce that the PGA Tour will upgrade the annual tournament in tour sponsor FedEx’s corporate hometown to World Golf Championships status, according to the Commercial Appeal newspaper. The WGC Memphis event would replace the annual FedEx St. Jude Classic and eliminate the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. The PGA Tour intends to condense its schedule beginning in 2019 to move the Players Championship to March, the PGA Championship to May and finish the playoffs by Labor Day, so as not to compete with the NFL. FedEx announced a 10-year extension of its sponsorship deal with the PGA Tour in May. The PGA Tour has played annually in Memphis since 1958.

Disclosed: By authorities in Scottsdale, Ariz., that all six fliers aboard a single-engine plane that crashed Monday night on TPC Scottsdale’s Champions Course were killed, local news media reported. Their identities were not released, pending notification of family. The course sits adjacent to the Stadium Course, site of the PGA Tour’s annual Waste Management Phoenix Open. The Piper PA-24 Comanche crashed and burst into flames shortly after takeoff from Scottsdale Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
