Number of times in the past five years that a player who hadn’t already been qualified for the next week’s Masters punched his ticket for Augusta National by winning the Houston Open. Russell Henley, the 2017 Houston winner, joined Jim Herman (2016), Matt Jones (2014) and D.A. Points (2013) as last-minute qualifiers for the Masters. Among those trying to earn their way to Augusta via the Houston Open, which begins Thursday at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, will be England’s Lee Westwood, whose streak of 13 consecutive Masters starts is in jeopardy (tee times).

Number of top-10 players in the Rolex Rankings who are entered in this week’s ANA Inspiration, the LPGA’s first major championship of the season. In addition to top-ranked Shanshan Feng of China, No. 2 Lexi Thompson of the U.S., who was stunned with a four-stroke penalty and eventual playoff loss last year, returns to Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., as does No. 3 So Yeon Ryu of South Korea, the defending champion (tee times).
