Accepted: By Ernie Els and Jim Furyk, special exemptions into the U.S. Open, the U.S. Golf Association announced. Els, 48, of South Africa, won the 1994 and 1997 Opens. Furyk, 47, of the U.S., won the 2003 U.S. Open. The list of exemptions for the U.S. Open includes 10 years for an Open champion. The 118th U.S. Open will be played June 14-17 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. Only three other players since 2010 have been granted special exemptions: Tom Watson (2010/T-29), Vijay Singh (2010/T-40) and Retief Goosen (2016/missed cut). Hale Irwin is the only player to have won the Open on a special exemption, in 1990 at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club.

Announced: By the LPGA, that the 2019 season will open with the inaugural Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions, to be played Jan. 17-20 at Tranquilo Golf Club at Four Seasons Resort Orlando in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Winners from the 2017 and 2018 seasons will join celebrities in competing for a $1.2 million purse.
