Number of players tied atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Honda LPGA Thailand. Americans Jessica Korda and Lexi Thompson, Australia’s Minjee Lee and Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn shot 6-under 66s at Siam Country Club Pattaya’s Old Course in Chonburi. For Korda, it was her return to competition after jaw surgery Dec. 7 to correct a lifetime of pain and headaches (scores).

Number of scores at par or better this season on the PGA Tour, in 17 rounds, for first-year member Alex Noren, who shares the first-round lead in the Honda Classic. Noren, a Swede who has won nine times on the European Tour, shot 4-under 66 at PGA National’s Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and stands tied with American Webb Simpson. Justin Thomas, the Tour’s reigning player of the year, was among a group of five tied at 67 (scores).

First-round scores for co-leaders Eddie Pepperell, Gregory Havret and Aaron Rai at the European Tour’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club. England’s Pepperell and Rai and France’s Havret stand 7 under and one stroke in front (scores). The Qatar Masters wraps up the tour’s annual visit to the Middle East (“Euro Tour ignores Qatar’s terror ties,” Sept. 7).

Score for Tiger Woods, which was even par, in the first round of the Honda Classic. Woods, who started on the 10th hole at PGA National’s Champion Course, birdied two of his first four holes before a double bogey at the par-5 No. 3 halted his momentum. He hit seven of 14 fairways and 10 of 18 greens in regulation (scores).
