Withdrew: Bill Haas, from the PGA Tour’s Genesis Open, after he was injured while a passenger in a car in which the driver was killed Tuesday night in a crash in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Haas, 35, was treated and released at UCLA Medical Center, his manager, Allen Hobbs, told KCBS-TV in Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles Times, which cited police reports, a Ferrari driven by Mark Gibello, 71, and believed to be traveling at high speed collided with several vehicles and then smashed into a utility pole. Actor Luke Wilson was driving one of the vehicles struck by the Ferrari and not seriously injured. A 50-year-old woman in a BMW was listed in serious condition, according to the L.A. Fire Department. According to a PGA Tour news release, the driver of the car in which Haas was riding is a member of a local family with which Haas was staying during the tournament at nearby Riviera Country Club. Jay Haas, the golfer’s father, told Golf Channel that his son has pain and swelling in one of his legs, adding that “Bill was very fortunate.” An aerial photo by KTLA-TV showed the mangled Ferrari, with its top peeled off by rescue personnel, airbags deployed and encircled by crime-scene tape.
