Announced: By the PGA of America, that the Women’s PGA Cup, an international competition for female PGA members, will debut in 2019. Each national team will be composed of five players and a captain. In addition to the U.S., the countries that have committed to play are Australia, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland, Netherlands and Sweden. The site of the 54-hole event was not announced.

Carried: The Olympic torch, by South Korean golfer Inbee Park, at Friday’s opening ceremony for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Se Ri Pak, whose two major championships in 1998, the LPGA Championship and U.S. Open, ignited interest in women’s golf in South Korea, helped carry the host nation’s flag.
