Remember to give thanks
I have played more than 700 different golf courses, of which 150-plus have been rated at various times in the top 100 of the golf magazines’ lists, and have always been treated nicely and with all the pleasantries, and welcomed back (“Golf’s growth key: Retention over outreach,” Jan. 22, http://bit.ly/2Dtd2yF).
Perhaps some people expect a handout. I always thought a purchase in the pro shop was the right way to say thank you to those who treated you with kindness.

Another Torrey story
Boy, oh boy, can I ever identify with the reader on the lack of courtesy and caring regarding Torrey Pines (“From the Morning Read inbox,” Jan. 24, http://bit.ly/2DAHwCW).
I had that experience in 2008, and they have not changed a bit: arrogant and inattentive. It is just a long muni with a few spectacular ocean views (if no fog rolls in).
I sure am glad that I am not the only one who feels that way.
