Announced: By the LPGA, that the tour will play its previously announced Los Angeles event at Wilshire Country Club. The Hugel-JTBC Open, the LPGA’s first tournament in L.A. since 2005, will be played April 19-22. The LPGA will make four stops in California in March-April. Wilshire has played host to tournaments on the PGA, Champions and LPGA tours.
Disclosed: By Waterfall Club on Lake Burton in northeast Georgia, that Alabama football coach Nick Saban bought a minority ownership share in the club (http://bit.ly/2DlSqMy). Saban, an avid golfer during college football’s off-season, owns a summer home in the mountains near the club. He also can claim another piece of Georgia after his Crimson Tide defeated the Bulldogs in the recent NCAA title game.
Named: By the Champions Tour as its player of the year, Bernhard Langer, who won seven times last season for his seventh POY honor on the 50-and-older tour. Jerry Kelly was honored as the rookie of the year. Both players were recognized at the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii.
