Named: As captain of the 2019 U.S. Walker Cup team, Nathaniel Crosby, 56, the 1981 U.S. Amateur champion and son of the late entertainer Bing Crosby. The biennial matches between the top U.S. male amateurs and their Great Britain and Ireland counterparts will be played Sept. 7-8 at Royal Liverpool (England) Golf Club. The Americans lead the series, 36-9-1.
Announced: By the LPGA, its 2018 schedule, which will feature 34 events and a record $68.75 million in prize money. The LPGA added two spring events in California and a fall tournament in Shanghai, which will expand the annual late-season Asia Swing to seven stops. The additions offset the loss of tournaments in Mexico and Canada, and 2018 being an off-year for the biennial Solheim Cup. The season starts in the Bahamas with the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic on Jan. 25-28 at Ocean Club on Paradise Island (schedule: http://bit.ly/2yoHSoF).
