Vegas favors Spieth, McIlroy in PGA

Las Vegas oddsmakers gave Jordan Spieth a good chance at winning the career Grand Slam next month.

Spieth, winner of Sunday’s British Open, was installed by Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook as an 8-1 co-favorite to win the PGA Championship on Aug. 10-13 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. Rory McIlroy, who tied for fourth at Royal Birkdale, also was rated at 8-1. McIlroy, a four-time major champion, won the 2012 and ’14 PGA titles. He also won two regular-season tournaments at Quail Hollow, in 2010 and ’15.

Dustin Johnson, who is No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, was the third choice at 10-1 odds. Jason Day and Rickie Fowler were listed at 15-1 picks. Hideki Matsuyama and Jon Rahm were 20-1. U.S. Open winner Brooks Koepka, Masters champion Sergio Garcia and former major champions Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose were 25-1 selections.

Jimmy Walker, the defending champion, was listed at 100-1.
