American Justin Thomas headlines this week’s $8 million Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the 1st of 3 desert events in a row
3: Number consecutive weeks that the European Tour will be competing in the Middle East to open 2021, beginning with this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Play begins Thursday at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates. Three of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking – No. 3 Justin Thomas of the U.S., No. 6 Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and No. 9 Tyrrell Hatton of England – will headline the field for the $8 million event. England’s Lee Westwood, the winner last month of the tour’s 2020 Race to Dubai title, also was entered. The tour will remain in the UAE next week for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, followed by the Saudi International on Feb. 4-7 at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia.
