LPGA begins 2-week swing in Texas

Volunteers of America Classic in suburban north Dallas will precede next week’s U.S. Women’s Open in Houston

2: Number of consecutive weeks that the LPGA will compete in Texas, beginning with this week’s Volunteers of America Classic at Old American Golf Club in The Colony. Texan Cheyenne Knight, who earned her first LPGA victory last season at the VOA, will be back to defend her title. Play begins Thursday at the 72-hole, $1.75 million event in suburban north Dallas (tee times). The VOA will serve as a warmup for next week’s U.S. Women’s Open at Houston’s Champions Golf Club, which will precede the season-ending Tour Championship in Naples, Fla., on the LPGA schedule.
